Ducati rider Jack Miller led the way in a wet first MotoGP practice at Assen.
Key moments:
> Five manufacturers in top six
> Lead Yamaha 15th
> Crashes for Bezzecchi and Bastianini
Miller, the winner of a wet Dutch TT for Marc VDS Honda back in 2016, led the way for most of the 45-minute session, the entirety of which was held on an absolutely drenched track surface.
But the rain did seem to ease up coming into the final minutes of the session, allowing a number of riders to jump ahead of the Aussie before he likewise improved to reclaim the first spot.
Miller’s 1m42.489s – around 11 seconds off the pole time in the dry last year – was enough to keep him a tenth clear of nearest rival Joan Mir (Suzuki), while Pol Espargaro (Honda) and a late-improving Alex Marquez (LCR Honda) made it two RC213Vs in the top four.
Aleix Espargaro and Miguel Oliveira led the way for Aprilia and KTM respectively in fifth and sixth.
The Yamaha works duo of Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo spent much of the session towards the front, but were ultimately shuffled down to a respective 15th and 17th.
Turn 1 proving tricky already! ⚠️@Marco12_B fares a little worse than @JoanMirOfficial! 💥#DutchGP 🇳🇱 pic.twitter.com/fLrqeT6o4V

There were two crashes at Turn 1 early on, for Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati) and Enea Bastianini (Gresini Ducati) – and while the former bounced back to 14th place, the latter remained last, nearly four seconds off the pace.
Absolutely nothing @Bestia23 could do about that one! 🤯#DutchGP 🇳🇱 pic.twitter.com/OKTDh3btUh
