The Race IndyCar Podcast is a busy one this week, with a special episode ranking the top 10 drivers of the season so far – including an interview with Marcus Ericsson – and unpacking the latest on the Alex Palou saga.
Both Palou’s current team Chip Ganassi Racing and McLaren have laid claim to the reigning champion, with Ganassi announcing a contract extension this week shortly before McLaren and Palou countered – suggesting he would be moving there at the end of the season.
Host duo Jack Benyon and JR Hildebrand explain the complexity of the situation and what could happen next, before getting into their top 10 drivers of the year at the halfway point.
Each host has ranked his top 10 and then the average of the two forms the ranking. Listen in to see if you agree with where the hosts have placed this year’s drivers and who got the number one spot.
Palou’s current Ganassi team-mate Ericsson wasn’t happy when he missed out on a place in last season’s rankings, but the points leader and Indy 500 winner is very much included this time as he joins to talk about his year and the aftermath of his Brickyard win.
He says – perhaps in jest – that missing out on last year’s The Race IndyCar Podcast top 10 in the first half of the season provided the motivation to become the highest points scorer in the series since, and that he’ll have to find new motivation for the remainder of the season.
