An Indianapolis 500 debut beckons for the champion of the most important weekend for IndyCar’s primary feeder series, Indy Lights.
The champion – Kyle Kirkwood or David Malukas – will receive a prize worth around $1.3million in the form of a three-race IndyCar 2022 programme, including the Indy 500.
Prior to the title-deciding weekend at Mid-Ohio, Andretti Autosport’s Kirkwood held a 15-point advantage over HMD Motorsport’s Malukas in the drivers’ championship.
Kirkwood’s victory in the Saturday race added another seven points to that advantage, and now it all comes down to the Sunday finale.
