Pato O’Ward’s drive to Texas victory – which bagged him an F1 test courtesy of Zak Brown – provides the main talking point for this episode of The Race’s IndyCar podcast.

Indianapolis 500 regular JR Hildebrand joins co-host and The Race’s American Editor Jack Benyon to break down an exciting double header on the 1.5-mile oval, after which half of the series’ oval races are now complete for 2021.

The hosts assess who was to blame for some of the key incidents including a start crash in race two, examine how the rain-cancelled qualifying affected proceedings and how drivers like Scott Dixon and Josef Newgarden are able to overcome adversity to maintain long championship charges.

Hildebrand also talks about his preparation for his first outing with AJ Foyt Racing at the Indy 500 as we reach the month of May, and also discusses his 2009 Force India F1 test in the wake of O’Ward scoring a similar opportunity.

While there is no race this weekend, The Race IndyCar Podcast will return next week with a special guest ahead of the Indianapolis road course race.
