FIA race director Scot Elkins has joined the motorsport timing and technology solutions company Al Kamel as its new chief executive officer of a North American branch of its business to be known as Al Kamel North America.
The Al Kamel Group of companies which supplies many leading world championships and series with timing and communications, is building a brand-new base near the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Elkins is believed to be staying on as race director with the ABB FIA Formula E world championship this season, although his plans after the present campaign are unclear.
He has two decades of experience in race direction and motorsport management and took up his position as the Formula E race director in 2017. Prior to that, he served as deputy race director in Formula 1 with Charlie Whiting for a time.
He has also worked at IMSA where he was chief operating officer, overseeing technical aspects of the historic merger between IMSA and Grand-Am. Elkins also worked as the technical director for the Champ Car World Series, leading the design and development of the DP-01 chassis in 2011/12.
Elkins will assume the position of strategic director at Al Kamel Systems, the parent company. He will also oversee the commercial operations of ZN Communication Services, a recent venture specializing in radio communications, founded in collaboration between Al Kamel Systems and Racing Force Group.
This partnership aims to deliver cutting-edge communication solutions within the motorsport industry.
