Alpine losing Fernando Alonso to Aston Martin on Monday morning seemed set to be the biggest bombshell of the 2023 Formula 1 driver market.
Then things got much, much stranger when Alpine announced its reserve driver Oscar Piastri as Alonso’s replacement only for Piastri to announce two hours later that he was absolutely not going to race for the team in 2023.
Alpine disagrees… but can it force him, or will Piastri replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren?
