It has often seemed so easy for Mercedes to win in Formula 1 over the past seven years, but we tell the full story of how the Silver Arrows dominance of the V6 turbo hybrid era started back in 2014.

To mark Mercedes clinching its seventh consecutive constructors’ title and 100th win under these engine regulations, The Race F1 Podcast looks back to the setbacks and challenges that had to be overcome in the build up to that first triumphant season in 2014.

With contributions from former Mercedes engine boss Andy Cowell and chief designer John Owen, Mark Hughes and Edd Straw join Scott Mitchell to reveal the untold stories from the period that laid the foundations for the Mercedes success.

But it wasn’t all about engine development, so there’s also a look at the reasons why the 2014 car was so strong and how main rival Red Bull’s approach helped Mercedes to steal a march on development during the previous season.
