The Aston Martin and Alpine Formula 1 teams have both been in the news recently with their new identities, but the ex-Racing Point team has made a far more assured start to 2021 than the former Renault operation.

While Aston Martin has a stable management structure and shown its commitment to its British Racing Green colours, Alpine’s leadership remains uncertain with Davide Brivio at least announced as racing director but with “his specific role and responsibilities” yet to be confirmed.

Of course the battle will be decided on the track and we’re still in pre-season, but it’s a strong start for Aston Martin in the battle of the rebrands with high hopes the Silverstone-based squad can build on its successful 2020 campaign.

Gary Anderson, Mark Hughes and Scott Mitchell join Edd Straw to examine the differing situations of the teams and the impact changes in identity can have on them.

There’s also a discussion of Lewis Hamilton’s contract situation and the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on F1.
