Pierre Gasly has been summoned to see the Brazilian Grand Prix stewards for an infringement prior to the sprint race, putting him at risk of edging closer to a Formula 1 race ban.
Gasly has picked up 10 penalty points in the last 12 months and is just two penalty points away from an automatic race ban which he branded “embarrassing” prior to the weekend.
The AlphaTauri driver, who finished 10th in the sprint race, has now been summoned to see the stewards for “driving unnecessarily slowly during reconnaissance laps” prior to the sprint race in Interlagos.
Sprint race winner George Russell was asked for his view on Gasly edging closer to a race ban in the post-race press conference and reiterated his view that Gasly doesn’t deserve a suspension and the FIA should review the possibility of an exemption if he reaches 12 penalty points.
Gasly has picked up his points for a variety of reasons over the last year.
He earned four penalty points for collisions with Aston Martin drivers across the Spanish and Austrian Grands Prix.
Within that Austrian GP he also picked up one penalty point for repeated track limits abuse and added another two at Suzuka for speeding under the red flag.
He took his tally to 10 points for falling too far behind the safety car at Austin and leaving the track and gaining an advantage while going off the track – and taking Lance Stroll with him – at Mexico City.
