The Aston Martin Formula 1 team has announced another signing from Red Bull as it continues its technical restructuring.
Andrew Alessi has moved to Aston Martin to become head of technical operations from the start of this month.
He has spent his whole F1 career at Red Bull so far, joining in 2009 ahead of its championship-winning years, and holding a management role in its aerodynamics team.
Alessi follows Red Bull aero head Dan Fallows in joining Aston Martin, though it’s less clear when Fallows can begin in his new role as technical director there as he remains under contract to Red Bull.
“Like everyone in and around Formula 1, I have seen and been impressed by the evident ambition of the team I am joining, led as it is now by Lawrence Stroll, and I am very much looking forward to working with Otmar Szafnauer as well as the very capable technical and engineering focused members of the senior management team,” said Alessi.
“Now is a fantastic time to be joining a team that is growing fast, and I am ready to get stuck in straight away so as to contribute to the process of making the significant aerodynamic and operational improvements that we need in order to win consistently in the future.”
Aston Martin also recently announced that Luca Furbatto is joining from Alfa Romeo as its new engineering director and that Tom McCullough is being promoted to performance director.
“Many times this year we have said: ‘This team has always punched above its weight; now it has the weight with which to punch harder,'” said Szafnauer.
“That is absolutely true – and expert and experienced new arrivals such as Luca, Dan and now Andrew represent proof that we are building the technical/engineering strength in depth that we need in order to deliver that harder punch.”
