Alfa Romeo Formula 1 boss Frederic Vasseur will miss this weekend’s F1 pre-season test in Bahrain after a positive COVID-19 test.

In a statement released by the team, Alfa Romeo confirmed that Vasseur has also taken a second test, which returned a negative result, and that the 52-year-old is not currently displaying any coronavirus symptoms.

Vasseur will work from home in France for the next seven days, but will be “fully operational and connected to the garage” according to the team’s statement.

The team will not name a deputy in Vasseur’s place claiming “no further impact predicted on our operations”.

Pre-season testing has been shortened to just three days – from March 12-14 – and moved to Bahrain this year, where the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix will take place on March 28.

Vasseur has been with the team since before it changed its name from Sauber to Alfa Romeo, after joining from Renault back in 2017.
