Get your watch made from parts of Senna's iconic Lotus F1 car

2 min read

When it comes to iconic driver and car combinations in Formula 1, few are quite as memorable as Ayrton Senna and the John Player Special liveries that adorned his Lotus F1 cars.

How iconic would it be, then, to have a daily reminder of Senna's prowess and those famous colours to wear across your wrist?

Independent watch brand REC Watches is offering precisely that, with its new 98T/4 timepiece.

Painstakingly and intricately developed over the course of almost two years, each piece is made with original parts from Senna's 1986 Lotus 98T in collaboration with Classic Team Lotus.

The aluminium plenum tubes from chassis #4 - privately owned and still being raced to this day - have been reforged to form the watch's outer chapter rings and tachymeter scales, while its design takes a number of cues from the car as well.

In addition to an incredibly sleek case construction, the black and gold colour tones embellish the display, while the car's #12 motif is skeletonised on the rotor - and the movement backplate decoration offers a nod to the Renault EF15B, the engine that powered the 98T.

The 98T/4 collection is strictly limited to 989 watches, each of which is individually numbered.

Danish independent REC Watches specialises in manufacturing timepieces undeniably linked to famous legends and has done since 2014.

The 98T/4 is the latest in a line of projects that also includes watches made from Steve McQueen's TR6 motorcycle, Carroll Shelby's prototype Mustangs, or John DeLorean's personal DMC-12.

The 98T/4 pieces retail at £3195.00 and are exclusively available via REC Watches website with a 20% pre-order discount.
