Pecco Bagnaia's ongoing discomfort from his brutal Aragon accident just five days ago is not affecting his pace over a single lap at least, as he ended Friday at Misano nearly two tenths of a second clear of the MotoGP field.

Bagnaia is still feeling the after-effects of being violently dragged through the gravel underneath Alex Marquez's Ducati last Sunday, with Ducati team boss Davide Tardozzi suggesting on Friday that salvaging a podium might be his Misano goal.

But he is in great shape to do so after a 1m30.685s put him on top in Friday afternoon's session by 0.185 seconds over Aragon winner Marc Marquez's Gresini Ducati.

Championship leader Jorge Martin was third, nearly three tenths away from his title rival and just 0.001s ahead of Pramac Ducati team-mate Franco Morbidelli.

Bagnaia's works Ducati team-mate Enea Bastianini improved substantially on his morning form to complete the top five.

Pedro Acosta set the pace for much of the session before a late crash dropped him to sixth. The Tech3 GasGas rider was still the fastest KTM rider and one of only two of them straight through to Q2 along with works rider Jack Miller, whose team-mate Brad Binder just missed out in 11th.

KTM wildcard Pol Espargaro had been a startling third in the morning but sat out the final part of the afternoon session and was only 13th so will go through Q1.

Marco Bezzecchi made an encouraging start on home ground and was seventh for VR46 Ducati, followed by Maverick Vinales - the only Aprilia straight into Q2 after his works team-mate Aleix Espargaro crashed on his last lap.

There were more heroics from Fabio Quartararo. His fifth place in the morning was aided by a fresh tyre run, but ninth looked like genuine progress - or a stunning against-the-odds lap - from the Yamaha rider.
