MotoGP has finally released its 22-race calendar for 2025, with a revamped schedule that sees a number of races changing from their traditional dates.
The season will open, as previously announced, in Thailand, with the Chang International Circuit taking the place of Qatar’s Lusail event thanks to the timing of religious holiday Ramadan.
Things will kick off early in 2025, on March 2, before a one-week break and a long trip to South America for the Argentine GP. Back on the schedule despite not happening in 2024, it’s one of the races that remains uncertain thanks to the domestic political situation, a factor that may have contributed to its standalone spot.
Instead of being back to back with the Grand Prix of the Americas, there’ll instead be a one-week break before the championship heads to Texas - and then bounces back across the world as Lusail moves back to round four.
Jerez once again kicks off the European season at the end of April before a straight run north to Silverstone via Le Mans, as the British race moves forward to late May. Then there’s a swap in two Spanish rounds as Aragon rotates with the Catalan GP, with the Barcelona race now early September instead of early June.
The Italian GP at Mugello moves back a little to become a back-to-back round with the Dutch TT in its traditional spot at the end of June, while races in July at the Sachsenring and returning fan favourite Brno means the summer break will be three weeks later than usual.
Action will return in mid-August at the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian GP, with a short trip down the road to the new Balaton Park circuit for the Hungarian race the week after - another race that’s still TBC until the track is homologated.
Barcelona takes place the week after, back to back as Aragon was this year with Misano’s San Marino Grand Prix, ahead of a reduced Asian leg of the series that heads to Japan and Indonesia then Australia and Malaysia.
There’ll be two European races in November instead of one when the flyaways conclude, though, with Portimao joining Valencia for an end-of-season double-header to wrap up the year.
The calendar doesn’t include a number of rounds that have contracts for 2025, though, with the previously-announced absence of the Indian Grand Prix joined by a quiet death for the ill-fated Kazakh Grand Prix after three failed attempts to run the race in the past two seasons.
