Jorge Martin has been crowned MotoGP world champion, clinching the title by finishing third in the Solidarity Grand Prix as victory from Pecco Bagnaia proved not enough to overturn his points deficit.

After a stellar season, Pramac rider Martin finished behind Bagnaia and Gresini’s Marc Marquez on the day to finish 10 points ahead of Bagnaia in the standings.

Crossing the line, a visibly emotional Martin did what he was unable to do in 2023 and became the first independent team rider to win the title in the MotoGP era.

He completed the feat as Pramac departs Ducati for Yamaha, and he will take the number one plate to Aprilia for 2025.

Bagnaia bowed out in style with a double victory, having also won Saturday’s sprint, but his eight DNFs across the season meant he fell short this year after two consecutive titles.

With a perfect start off the line, Bagnaia led from start to finish, fending off 2025 team-mate Marquez, who finishes third in the standings ahead of Enea Bastianini.

Martin was third off the line and content to remain there all race. Gradually escaping from those behind as Bagnaia kept 2025 team-mate Marquez at arm’s length for the win.

The race’s action was all behind the top three. Bastianini, who started eighth, charged forwards and began a long tussle with Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro for fourth place.

With the pair trading fourth several times over the coming laps, further back Alex Marquez, Brad Binder and Franco Morbidelli were embroiled in a fierce fight for seventh.

An error from Bastianini at Turn 2 dropped him to seventh as he was forced through the shortcut, giving Espargaro more space to support friend Martin up ahead.

Bastianini’s next adversary was Morbidelli, with those two trading seventh several times before Bastianini emerged in front.

In the closing stages, Alex Marquez and Espargaro had a fierce fight for fourth, with the Gresini rider finishing ahead as Espargaro ends his full-time MotoGP career.

Brad Binder came from 18th on the grid to sixth to claim fifth in the standings ahead of KTM stablemate Acosta, with Bastianini and Morbidelli in seventh and eighth.

Marco Bezzecchi was ninth for VR46 in his final race with the team before joining Aprilia. Acosta rounded off the top 10 as his pace faded over the distance.
