MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin suffered injuries to his left hand, wrist and heel in the training crash that has ruled him out of at least this week's season-opening Thai Grand Prix.
Aprilia has now released more details of Martin's condition, listing "complex" damage to his left wrist, multiple fractures to his right hand and a left heel fracture - suffered when training on a supermoto bike at Lleida in Spain just days before the season opener.
That race was supposed to be his return to action following surgery on his other hand, which was injured in his violent crash on his very first morning of pre-season testing at Sepang three weeks ago.
"Jorge Martin suffered a complex fracture of the radius, some carpal bones on the left side and an ipsilateral calcaneal fracture of the left hand during a training session," said an Aprilia statement.
"After a surgical consultation, it was decided to proceed with surgery, which will take place tomorrow at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona to stabilise the fractures of the radius and the left scaphoid.
"Martin will miss the Thailand Grand Prix and recovery times will be determined after the surgery."
The following MotoGP round takes place in Argentina a fortnight after Thailand.
Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori will stand in for Martin at Buriram.
The team looks set for a step forward on track this season based on Martin's team-mate Marco Bezzecchi's test form.
But whenever Martin does make it back on track, he will be at a significant acclimatisation disadvantage on his new bike.
