All you need to know about second MotoGP Misano practice

Ducati MotoGP rider Jack Miller led the second wet practice session ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Misano.

Key moments:

  • Miller dominant, five Ducatis in top 10
  • Lecuona, Marini, Savadori on course for Q2
  • Quartararo only 16th
  • Crash for Pol Espargaro

After a fully-wet opening practice session, the Misano circuit seemed to provide slightly ‘faster’ conditions from the very start of FP2, and the surface only continued to dry from then on, albeit slowly.

With Saturday morning practice expected to be wet as well, this raised the stakes for the final minutes of FP2, as riders were presented with something of a dry line in the quest to potentially secure automatic Q2 spots in the combined practice classification.

Miller’s 1m41.305s, however, had come pretty early in the session, and the Aussie was untroubled out front, with only FP1 pace-setter Johann Zarco and Aprilia rider Aleix Espargaro managing to get within a second of Miller, and only just.

Tech3 KTM rider Iker Lecuona and factory KTM man Miguel Oliveira completed the top five, with Avintia Ducati rookie Luca Marini moving into sixth late on, pushing reigning champion Joan Mir out of the top 10.

That top 10 also included Aprilia tester Lorenzo Savadori, Ducati’s title contender Francesco Bagnaia, Tech3 KTM’s Danilo Petrucci and Pramac Ducati’s rookie Jorge Martin.

Championship leader Fabio Quartararo spent much of the session in the top 10 but couldn’t find the laptime he needed late on, and was visibly frustrated by that as he finished 16th.

Should FP3 conditions prove not conducive to improvements, Quartararo would be joined in Q1 by the likes of Mir, Marc Marquez (Honda), Alex Rins (Suzuki) and Brad Binder (KTM).

Also in there would be Honda’s Pol Espargaro, who tumbled through the gravel after crashing at Turn 13.
