It started with the final throes of the Prost/Senna/Mansell/Piquet dynamic and ended with a Schumacher/Hakkinen, Ferrari/McLaren battle that ebbed and flowed in captivating fashion.
In between the sport changed enormously. From the final era of true independents, when actual minnows bolted in a Ford or Judd V8 tried to scrape through pre-qualifying, to the arrival of manufacturing giants, who invested heavily and shaped F1 as we know it today
(for good and bad).
It was an era of huge technological development too. The Williams cars of the early part of the decade remain the most advanced in history.
And while the (ABS) brakes were applied to electronic development, advances in aerodynamic understanding gathered pace as the decade progressed.
