Will Power came out on top in a five-driver shootout for the IndyCar championship at Laguna Seca, at the start of what’s set to be a busy week for The Race IndyCar Podcast.

Team Penske driver Power is scheduled to appear on the show later this week, so podcast co-hosts JR Hildebrand and Jack Benyon used this episode to break down the events of the championship decider itself.

There’s a look at the mental strength of Power and how his pole position pointed to why he deserved the title, and a look at Josef Newgarden’s drive through the field and why it wasn’t quite enough in the context of his rollercoaster season.

Alex Palou’s dominating victory, the outgoing champion’s first win of the 2022 season, is analysed as rumours that he could be set for a U-turn and stay at Ganassi next season pick up pace.

An outstanding second in qualifying for Callum Ilott and his one-car Juncos Hollinger team is also discussed, as is Christian Lundgaard’s rookie of the year success and some general positivity around Rahal Letterman Lanigan.
