It was an explosive weekend of drama in the Detroit double-header, with Pato O’Ward storming through to win race two after a controversial ending led to a first IndyCar win for ex-F1 driver Marcus Ericsson.

Through all the drama, series powerhouse Team Penske came close on both days but still failed to get a first win on the board in 2021.

JR Hildebrand – after being on the ground in Detroit – joins The Race American Editor Jack Benyon to discuss some of the key topics like Will Power’s outburst after losing a race win, and whether Arrow McLaren SP driver O’Ward is the most explosive talent IndyCar has seen since the 1990s – and possibly before.

Ericsson’s journey from junior single-seater race winner through F1’s midfield to now finally winning an IndyCar race is covered, while Hildebrand also breaks down Felix Rosenqvist’s horrifying crash with some behind the scenes info.
