This week’s The Race IndyCar Podcast features an interview with comeback star Oliver Askew and a preview of this weekend’s Portland race, the first of a three-race stint to end the season.
Askew tells host Jack Benyon about his journey, through losing his Arrow McLaren SP drive last year and battling through a concussion, to nearly 12 months on when he has earned a comeback to contest the last three races in a plumb seat with Rahal Letterman Lanigan.
JR Hildebrand joins Benyon to discuss Ferrari test driver Callum Ilott’s one-off IndyCar race at Portland, noting that it’s good for IndyCar that it is not only attracting ex-Formula 1 drivers but also drivers like Ilott who are towards the start of their careers.
And with it being perhaps one of the lesser-known IndyCar circuits, Hildebrand and Benyon discuss the key parts of the Portland track and where to expect action to occur. Askew also adds his take, having won there in Pro Mazda three years ago.
