Ex-Formula 1 driver and current IndyCar man Marcus Ericsson joins The Race Esports Podcast after he was taken out of the lead on the last lap amid the mayhem that ensued in last weekend’s iRacing Challenge.
Chip Ganassi Racing driver Ericsson had been a relative simracing novice before the coronavirus lockdown, but has progressed rapidly in the IndyCar iRacing Challenge introduced to fill the gap with a lack of real racing.
After Simon Pagenaud and Lando Norris crashed on track, Ericsson fought for the lead and passed Patricio O’Ward at Turn 3 on the last lap, only for O’Ward to take him out.
Ericsson is joined by podcast hosts Claire Cottingham and Jack Nicholls alongside The Race’s American Editor Jack Benyon to discuss adapting to simracing, the success of IndyCar’s iRacing Challenge and the disastrous final round which led to feuding drivers and an outcry on social media.
Cottingham and Nicholls also discuss the blockbuster addition of Ferrari Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel to the The Race All-Star Trophy last weekend, where he impressed having not long set up his home simulator.
