Here is your guide to the 2023 Indianapolis 500, IndyCar’s blue riband event.

The Race IndyCar Podcast co-hosts Jack Benyon and JR Hildebrand – who twice almost ended up driving in the 2023 race but remains on the sidelines – break down the big storylines before the big day.

Each host picks a favourite to win and a dark horse driver, and talks about the teams and drivers who have impressed over the Month of May because it’s so hard to tell who is standing out in practice.

How the order might change in different temperatures and whether tyre wear will be a big issue on Sunday is also broached, in the context of the teams and drivers’ performance this month.

There’s also some tips on how to watch the race from home, and how the rising ticket sales mean the biggest single-day sporting event is edging towards a sellout, which it hasn’t achieved since the 2016 ’100th running’.

There’s also a look at how Graham Rahal – and not Hildebrand – got the nod to replace the injured Stefan Wilson and an update on the latter after surgery, with Hildebrand also talking about the 400bhp midget he’ll race on Friday night.

Don’t forget, if you have a question for our hosting team, you can email text and/or voice notes to be included on the podcast by sending them to podcasts@the-race.com.
