IndyCar podcast: What Newgarden needs to win the title

Josef Newgarden’s title chances after finally breaking his and Team Penske’s 2021 winless streak are the main topic of this week’s The Race IndyCar Podcast, which analyses the action from Mid-Ohio.

Hosts JR Hildebrand and The Race’s Jack Benyon look at the numbers behind the remaining races for Newgarden, and whether finally breaking his run of bad luck brings him into the title picture.

Chip Ganassi Racing had three cars in the top four at Mid-Ohio and has Alex Palou leading the points and Scott Dixon in third, so the hosting team debate if Ganassi’s strength in depth relative to Penske could be a decisive factor in the championship.

Andretti, which had a 1-2-3 at Mid-Ohio last year, is also part of the discussion as two of its drivers who are fighting to keep their seats crashed into each other on the first lap.

Jul 08 : Can Penske launch a late title charge with Newgarden?
