IndyCar podcast: How Newgarden double impacts Palou title fight

A double Iowa win for Josef Newgarden and how it affects his 2023 title fight with Alex Palou is the main topic of discussion on the latest episode of The Race IndyCar Podcast.

Co-host and ace IndyCar oval racer JR Hildebrand breaks down Newgarden’s skills, and gives his take on Newgarden’s outburst about the way lapped cars were racing against him in race one – an outburst in which he said he would put the supposed perpetrators in the fence.

Palou’s recovery to a podium in race two and how he and Ganassi achieved that with a “bad” car is also dissected, with a focus both on the Iowa races and in terms of what his results mean for his title push.

Hosting duo Hildebrand and Jack Benyon also look at what it takes to come from a European-style racing background and excel on ovals, especially depending on what team you’re in, as a pair of second-year drivers starred.

And a late Felix Rosenqvist charge, plus two disqualifications in race two, make for plenty of talking points.

Don’t forget, if you have a question for our hosting team, you can email, text and/or submit voice notes to be included on the podcast by sending them to podcasts@the-race.com.
