This year’s Indianapolis 500 entry list has been revealed, with the return of bump day being confirmed as 35 cars have entered.
The maximum grid size at the prestigious event is 33, and 33 cars entered last year – meaning everyone who entered, qualified.
This year, with two more entries, two cars will fail to make the grid.
Among the 35 cars – made up of 22 international drivers and 13 from the US – there were no surprise entries revealed.
It was anticipated that a 36th car would be entered for Dale Coyne with Rick Ware Racing. That entry was driven by James Davison last year and NASCAR driver Cody Ware had driven the car in a test and showed interest in doing the race.
However, he said an entry would hinge on sponsorship and his name hasn’t appeared on the entry.
At Dale Coyne, one of three rookies takes part as Pietro Fittipaldi gets to race in the event he missed through injuries sustained in a sportscar crash at Spa in 2018.
Scott McLaughlin scored second on his maiden oval event at Texas earlier this month, and he’s joined by the third rookie RC Enerson who drives for the new Top Gun Racing team.
There are nine event winners in the field – one shy of the single-event record – while seven IndyCar champions are also on the entry.
