Santino Ferrucci will drive the #18 Dale Coyne Racing entry in the 2020 IndyCar season following the surprise exit of Sebastien Bourdais.

Bourdais was dropped by Dale Coyne Racing last November, while former SuperFormula competitor Alex Palou was announced to be taking over Ferrucci’s #19 entry in December.

Ferrucci, who has rebuilt his reputation since returning to America after a controversial stint in Europe, was all-but certain to remain with Coyne, and the confirmation of his drive for 2020 deemed a mere formality.

“We’re very happy to have Santino back with us for the 2020 season,” said team co-owner Dale Coyne.

“He had a very good rookie season and he was absolutely stellar on the ovals. We look forward to him building on that this year.

“I think he surprised a lot of people in 2019 and he has the potential to do even better in his sophomore year as he now moves to the #18 car.”

Ferrucci, the 2019 IndyCar Rookie of the Year, now moves into a team leadership role with the race-winning Coyne team and is keen to repay the faith of those who gave him his IndyCar chance.

“I’m extremely honoured that Dale, Jimmy, and Sulli have put their faith in me to carry this programme forward,” said Ferrucci.

“I’m eager to move into the #18 car and get spring training started.”
