The “mad” rise of simracing is discussed on the debut episode of The Race’s new Esports Podcast.
With real-word racing events non-viable for the time being amid the coronavirus pandemic, a multitude of online racing events have emerged at short notice to dominate the motorsport landscape, regularly attracting professional racing drivers.
Podcast host Claire Cottingham and commentator Jack Nicholls are joined in the discussion by simracer and YouTube video producer Jimmy Broadbent, as well as four-time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti, who won last weekend’s Legends Trophy organised by The Race despite being a simracing novice.
Franchitti shares his impressions from the outing and how it compares to his real-life experiences, while Broadbent delves into his background and sim set-up – and talks of a recent shift in how simracers are being perceived by the motorsport community.
