Formula E’s 2021 Monaco E-Prix winner Antonio Felix da Costa was fastest in morning practice for the 2022 edition.

The series was allowed to use the full Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix layout last year, but with a slightly different chicane profile at the harbourfront.

For 2022, Formula E is finally on the exact same Monaco track configuration as F1 will be next month.

Reigning champion Nyck de Vries was fastest for Mercedes on a 1m31.154s in opening practice, which – as has become usual in this season’s timetables – took place at a very early 7.30am local time.

Customer runners Nick Cassidy (Envision Audi) and Edoardo Mortara (Venturi Mercedes) were next up.

Da Costa was fourth in that session in his DS Techeetah then set the pace in practice two just over an hour later with a 1m30.435s lap.

Double Rome winner Mitch Evans was second, 0.209s behind, having had a minor traffic spat with Andre Lotterer on what might’ve been a faster lap afterwards.

Jean-Eric Vergne also looked like he might’ve challenged his DS team-mate for the top spot before clouting the wall at the Swimming Pool exit on his final lap. He made it back to the pits and remained fourth behind Envision’s Robin Frijns.

The struggling Nissan team had an encouraging start, with a car in fifth place in each session – Sebastien Buemi in practice one, Maximilian Guenther in practice two.

Alexander Sims caused a red flag in the second session by parking his Mahindra on the inside on the approach to Rascasse with possible front suspension damage. An off-camera incident between Sims and Buemi was investigated but no action deemed necessary.

Andretti’s Oliver Askew also lost running when he pulled off with an apparent mechanical problem early in practice two.
