until Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League

Mercedes took both wins in the Diriyah Formula E 2022 season-opener, one with its works team and the other with customer Venturi.

Is the brand that dominated Formula 1 for so long about to dominate its final season in FE, too?

To try to answer that question The Race Formula E Podcast has recruited a man with intimate knowledge of the Mercedes FE car – Norman Nato, who won the 2021 finale with it when driving for Venturi, and is now trying to beat the Mercedes in his new role as Jaguar’s reserve and simulator driver.

Nato joins Sam Smith and Matt Beer to discuss all the Diriyah action, including the revamped qualifying format, how Stoffel Vandoorne threw away race one victory and the controversial safety car and recovery vehicle incidents at the end of race two.

With Nato knowing all about how hard FE is for rookies, he gives his take on the impressive debuts by Oliver Askew and Dan Ticktum, and the less impressive start to Antonio Giovinazzi’s Formula E career.

And our panel also discusses this week’s massive news story that McLaren could be part of the process of saving what’s currently the Mercedes FE team for 2023.
