One of the stars of a wild, first-ever Portland E-Prix joins this week’s episode of The Race Formula E Podcast, with Mitch Evans on hand to recount all of the action.
Evans salvaged his weekend by advancing from 20th on the grid to fourth at the chequered flag, and tells Sam Smith and Andrew van de Burgt about that rescue mission – one that keeps him in the title picture with four races of the 2023 season remaining.
The Jaguar driver also describes what it’s like in the white heat of a 22-car ‘peloton’ – with Portland the most extreme example yet during the Gen3 Formula E era of an energy-management race – with FE declaring it featured 403 passing moves.
The race was won by Nick Cassidy, and the podcast also examines his technique and nouse for perfectly-executed victories in these conditions – as well as his chances of becoming Evans’s team-mate at Jaguar next season.
Also up for discussion is whether this style of racing is attractive to fans – or anyone – whether Jake Dennis is now the title favourite following his fourth runner-up finish in five races (and fifth-straight podium), just what DS Penske was up to in the pitlane and whether it was cheating, plus a huge shunt for Nico Mueller and a Nissan drivers’ collision.
