Race director Scot Elkins guests on the latest episode of The Race Formula E podcast to discuss the series’ hopes for a return to action, as well as share his memories of the late Charlie Whiting.

Event cancellations brought on by COVID-19 mean Formula E currently has no scheduled events on its 2019-20 season calendar, but the series hopes to be able to schedule three events to round out the campaign and crown a champion.

Elkins joins host Andrew van de Burgt and The Race’s Formula E correspondent Sam Smith to talk about the viability and the logistics of a proper conclusion to the season.

Also discussed are the downsides and benefits of potentially holding rounds at permanent circuits, why the 2018-19 season opener was beyond “a nightmare” and how drivers’ personalities are transformed when they put their helmets on.

Finally, Elkins talks about his friendship with FIA race director Whiting, and why how “tries to be like him every day, and it’s a hard job because he was so incredible”.
