Formula E has indicated it is considering action over what it alleges is a "breach of contract" in regard to its Hyderabad E-Prix round, which has been officially cancelled for the coming season.
The impending cancellation of the 2024 edition - which would've been the second Hyderabad E-Prix - was reported by The Race last week and has now been made official by the championship.
The all-electric series says it has "formally given notice" of a "breach of contract" to the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department - which is part of the government of the Telangana state of which Hyderabad is the capital, and which Formula E says has decided "not to fulfil" what it says is a multi-year hosting agreement.
Series' organiser Formula E Operations "is considering its position and what steps it may take", and says it has "reserved all rights in that regard".
"We are extremely disappointed for the huge motorsport fanbase in India," said series co-founder and chief championship officer Alberto Longo, who also referenced a "disappointment in the decision of the Government of Telangana".
"It is deeply frustrating that we cannot build on the success of the inaugural race last year, which delivered almost $84m in positive economic impact to the region," said Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds.
This is the fourth from the last six new Formula E races to be shekved after just one edition or fewer after Seoul (which ran once in 2022), Vancouver (which never happened) and Cape Town (which ran once in 2023).
The Race understands that the vacated date will not be filled and the calendar will consist of 16 races as in 2023.
This leaves a seven-week gap in the 2024 calendar between Diriyah at the end of January and Sao Paulo in mid-March.
