Aston Martin Formula 1 reserve driver Felipe Drugovich will participate in Formula E’s rookie test in Berlin later this month.
The 2022 Formula 2 champion has been assessing his options after never being in serious contention for a full-time F1 race seat.
Drugovich stood in for an injured Lance Stroll at Aston Martin during F1’s Bahrain pre-season test at the start of 2023 and will be on standby along with Stoffel Vandoorne for Aston Martin and McLaren throughout 2023.
He’ll get his first taste of Formula E machinery when he tests with Maserati at the rookie driver test in Berlin on April 24.
Drugovich will be joined by fellow Formula 2 race winner Robert Shwartzman – runner-up to Oscar Piastri in F2 in 2021 – who will test with DS Penske alongside ex-F1 driver Will Stevens.
Ferrari F1 reserve driver Shwartzman, who competes under an Israeli flag following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, didn’t race during 2022 but completed his first IndyCar test in January earlier this year and will return to racing in the GT World Challenge Europe series in a Ferrari.
Other participating drivers in the Berlin rookie test include ex-F1 driver Daniil Kvyat, who will test with NIO 333 and Red Bull protege Zane Maloney, who will participate alongside Indy Lights (now Indy NXT) champion Linus Lundqvist at Avalanche Andretti.
David Beckmann, who is due to stand in for Andre Lotterer at Andretti for the Jakarta double-header, will test with the factory Porsche squad along with sportscar ace Yifei Ye.
There will also be Formula E test debuts for Alpine junior Victor Martins, seven-time GP2/F2 race winner Luca Ghiotto at Nissan.
One-time Williams F1 starter Jack Aitken will test for Envision alongside former Red Bull junior and current FIA F3 driver Jonny Edgar.
McLaren will field 2022 GB3 champion Luke Browning and sportscar ace Charlie Eastwood.
