The Envision Formula E team has launched its livery for the first Gen3 season ahead of pre-season testing this week.
The Silverstone-based outfit launched its 2023 car on Monday morning after shaking down its race cars in the UK last week before they were transported to Valencia for this week’s test days.
Nick Cassidy will continue with the team for a third season, and he is joined by Sebastien Buemi who will undertake his first campaign as a non-e.dams driver.
Buemi will be seen in an Envision-run Jaguar for the first time at the shakedown session at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo which will be held this afternoon behind closed doors.
Reigning WEC champion Buemi has registered 29 podiums and 13 E-Prix victories in his Formula E. Despite a drought of wins in the last three seasons, Buemi still holds the most victories in the all-electric championship, a feat he now shares with Lucas di Grassi who drew level with him after winning one of last July’s London E-Prixs.
Envision has had some testing in the Jaguar I-Type 6 in recent months as part of its four days agreement with its supplier.
Talking to The Race back in August, Managing Director & CTO Envision Racing Sylvain Filippi said that he believed that Jaguar and Envision’s racing culture is closely matched.
“The decision-making process of which manufacturer you go with was pretty complex: the car, the people, the resources, all that stuff,” said Filippi.
“But ultimately it’s a small world, right, especially in the Midlands, so we knew most of them anyway.
“Then you ask yourself ‘do you trust them’ and of course the answer was a clear yes.
“Our respective to capabilities work as a team and it was kind of there before we even started, so you just get comfortable because they’re just a great bunch of people.
“They have great resources and great commitment. That’s what I like, they are really committed with no distractions. They know what the job is. They’ll do their best at it and as far as I can see it is relatively a-political, which is the way we work too.”
Envision does much more than just painting its cars green, however, and it says it will be committed to “using its Jaguar I-Type 6 actively to promote make electric mobility and renewable energy a global reality”.
It is particularly active politically in highlighting global climate issues with Filippi and other members of the Envision team moulding large parts of its marketing initiative around conservation and sustainability messages.
Last month Filippi was the only head of a Formula E team to attend the COP27 in Egypt, and the team has previously amplified discussions between politicians, engineers and climate scientists through panels and seminars.
One of these was the ‘Race Against Climate Change’ discussions earlier this year which was detailed in Time magazine which partners with Envision Racing.
“We have officially entered the Gen3 era – the most advanced electric racing car ever built. This car proves that high performance, efficiency and sustainability can co-exist without compromise,” added Filippi.
“For Envision Racing, this reaches beyond our competition on the track. This innovation and ingenuity goes to the heart of our mission – demonstrating the exciting capabilities of an electric future and tackling the climate crisis head-on.”
