Sebastien Buemi set the fastest ever lap of the New York E-Prix circuit to top the second Formula E practice session ahead of qualifying.
2015/16 Formula E champion Buemi currently sits down in 22nd place in the championship, with just two points finishes this season. His Nissan e.dams outfit changed all of the parts on his car last time out at Puebla in an effort to cure his miserable season.
Buemi posted a 1m09.386s with just over 10 minutes of the session remaining – the quickest time set at the circuit that joined the FE calendar in 2017.
Buemi, who has won three races at this venue, eclipsed BMW Andretti’s Maximilian Guenther by just 0.031s to head FP2.
Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein – disqualified from a race win last time out at Puebla – was third fastest, within one-tenth of Buemi’s benchmark.
Four quickest was the new championship leader Edoardo Mortara and his Venturi team-mate Norman Nato rounded out the top five.
Mercedes’ Nyck de Vries was sixth fastest ahead of Buemi’s team-mate Oliver Rowland and the second Mercedes of Stoffel Vandoorne.
Two-time FE champion Jean-Eric Vergne spun his DS Techeetah at Turn 1 and locked-up at Turn 6 later in the session, forcing him to reverse back onto the circuit.
Vergne recovered to post the ninth fastest time ahead of his former team-mate Andre Lotterer in the second Porsche.
Vergne’s current team-mate and defending champion Antonio Felix da Costa was on course to beat Buemi’s time before he hit traffic.
Jaguar’s Sam Bird sat out FP2 after crashing at the final corner in the opening practice session. His team is still trying to rebuild his car so he can participate in qualifying later today.
