When does each 2025 F1 driver's contract expire?

An almost revolutionary driver market in 2025 means only two teams - McLaren and Aston Martin - are fielding the same driver line-up for 2025 as they were the previous year.

That’s resulted in plenty of driver moves, and given that fact, we’ve sifted through to bring you the information on when each individual driver’s contracts end.

This will be crucial information for the 2026 driver market silly season, which some would argue is already well underway...

McLaren

Lando Norris - 2026*
Oscar Piastri - 2026

Lando Norris’s new deal - announced in January 2024 - confirmed he would be with the team until the end of 2026 along with Oscar Piastri, although the “long-term” wording used by McLaren means Norris is likely tied up for the 2027 season, too.

Ferrari

Charles Leclerc - “several more seasons"
Lewis Hamilton - 2026

Another January 2024 extension with a confusing outcome, this time for Leclerc, stated he would be with the team for "several more seasons”. It has been rumoured that the deal is until the end of 2029 with a break clause following the 2027 season.

Hamilton’s first Ferrari contract is widely accepted to be a two-year affair minimum after his blockbuster move from Mercedes.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen - 2028
Liam Lawson - 2025

In 2022 Max Verstappen signed a deal to keep him at Red Bull until 2028. That didn't stop months of speculation last year that perceived animosity in the Red Bull team and heavy interest from Mercedes could see him depart Red Bull before then.

Lawson has replaced Sergio Perez for 2025, and it would be incredibly unlikely that Red Bull would not give itself some sort of break clause if Lawson doesn’t come in and perform to the required standard. After all, he’s the least experienced F1 driver in terms of starts that Red Bull has promoted to its top team.

Mercedes

George Russell - 2025
Kimi Antonelli - 2025

There’s no doubt George Russell is going to be one of the biggest stories on the driver market for 2026. If Mercedes was to tempt Verstappen away, one of its current drivers would have to make way.

That could be Russell given how much faith Mercedes has already placed in Antonelli. You'd imagine Russell wouldn't be short of options elsewhere with Red Bull already declaring an interest.

Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso - 2026
Lance Stroll - 2026

There shouldn't be any change to Aston Martin's F1 driver line-up before 2027 with both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll locked in until 2026.

Alpine

Pierre Gasly - “multi-year”, at least 2026
Jack Doohan - 2025

This story is going to rumble heavily in early 2025. With Franco Colapinto signed, you get the feeling an ill-timed sneeze might cost new F1 driver Jack Doohan his job. Alpine is believed to have an option to move him aside in the first part of the F1 season, never mind before the end of the year.

Gasly signed through 2026 at least with a new deal in June 2024.

Haas

Ollie Bearman - 2026
Esteban Ocon - 2026

Haas has a fresh line-up in 2025 with big-name signing Esteban Ocon alongside 'sort of' rookie Ollie Bearman.

It seems both have deals through 2026, although with Bearman being a rookie, it’s not clear if Haas has reserved some sort of break clause for 2025.

If his F1 outings so far are anything to go by, they won’t need that clause anyway.

Racing Bulls

Yuki Tsunoda - 2025
Isack Hadjar - 2025

Yuki Tsunoda enters the final year of his deal. There were teams interested in him in 2024, and now Red Bull has spurned him - again - for Lawson this time, it doesn’t look like he’ll be anything more than a good benchmark for Red Bull’s other juniors at Racing Bulls even if he ends up staying.

Isack Hadjar is believed to be on a one-year deal, with the Formula 2 runner-up needing to impress.

Williams

Alex Albon - 2026+
Carlos Sainz - 2026

Albon has been signed at least through the 2026 season with a new deal last year, and he’ll be joined over the same period by Williams’ brilliant signing of Carlos Sainz from Ferrari.

Sauber

Nico Hulkenberg - "multi-year"
Gabriel Bortoleto - "multi-year"

Another fresh line-up with Hulkenberg joining from Haas and Gabriel Bortoleto coming on board for a rookie year after his F2 title.

Both were announced on multi-year deals in 2024, which logic dictates they are signed to the team through the 2026 season when the new rules era begins and the team will become Audi.
