F1 podcast: Why Mercedes and Red Bull look ‘swapped’

Karun Chandhok joins us to discuss whether Mercedes really is on the back foot heading into the first race of the season, or if it was holding back, in the latest edition of The Race Formula 1 Podcast.

Scott Mitchell also joins Edd Straw to sift through the evidence of testing and discuss what could have been learned from the subsequent Mercedes promotional day of running at the circuit.

There’s a look at the wide range of factors that led to the conclusion of Mercedes’ problems being genuine, as well as the reasons why Mercedes successfully troubleshooting the W12 still wouldn’t mean it would be automatically ahead of Red Bull.

Honda’s progress with its new power unit is also explained, as is the progress of its protege Yuki Tsunoda, who makes his F1 debut for AlphaTauri this year.

Alpine’s chances of providing Fernando Alonso with a car capable of fighting at the front of the midfield pack and Aston Martin’s subdued test are also on the agenda.

The Race F1 Podcast is released at least once a week and available free to subscribe to from all good podcast suppliers, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
