The club of Formula 1 grand prix starters is an exclusive one. F1 ‘grand prix weekend participants’ is slightly less so, thanks to the modern convention of giving new drivers a run-out in first practice.
Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull have not done it in the last decade, but every other team has called upon FP1 stand-ins, either bedding in a future signing or just renting out a seat for a price for 90 minutes.
Your task in the below quiz is to name every FP1-only driver since 2011. Many of them parlayed those FP1 drives into a proper F1 career, but just as many of them did not – and because of them, this is a tough one!
Only those who actually did a lap in FP1 were included, so that means no Callum Ilott, whose planned Eifel GP practice debut was rained out.
