Podcast: Why F1 car size and weight have spiralled

by Valentin Khorounzhiy

The latest edition of The Gary Anderson F1 Show podcasts asks if anything can be done to make Formula 1 cars smaller and lighter.

The former Jaguar and Jordan technical director explains why the trend has been for cars to get heavier and larger over the years.

He also suggests ways F1 could seek to reverse the situation, along with why that would be desirable for the spectacle.

But despite most agreeing this is the right course of action to take, Anderson also explains why it’s more difficult than it sounds to achieve that goal and requires some drastic action.

Having first been involved in F1 in 1973 with Brabham, Anderson has seen cars increase in complexity over the decades so offers a fascinating into what is an emotive topic for F1 fans.
