Fernando Alonso’s return to action in an ‘official’ Formula 1 session behind the wheel of the Renault RS20 in the so-called young driver test in Abu Dhabi added controversy to the final day of running of the 2020 grand prix season.

Glenn Freeman joins Edd Straw to discuss the rights and wrongs of Alonso’s test, and the potential benefit that the 39-year-old will have extracted from his 105 laps during the test.

They also discuss what Alonso’s return brings back to F1, especially as his participation was the big story of the Abu Dhabi test and acted as a reminder of his box office appeal.

There’s also a look at Sebastien Buemi’s appearance for Red Bull and what it says about the company’s young driver programme, and the decision by Mercedes to run two drivers lost to F1 – Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries.
