We debate the controversial issue of Formula 1’s race weekend format in the latest edition of The Race F1 Podcast.
Valentin Khorounzhiy, Scott Mitchell-Malm and Ben Anderson join Edd Straw to explain the revised sprint weekend structure that is set to be introduced for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and ask whether it’s the right move.
We also explain why F1 is so keen to experiment with race weekend formats and how it has gone about making changes.
With MotoGP switching to sprint races for all events, we also discuss whether there’s anything F1 can learn from this.
We then suggest some potential experimental formats that could have the desired effect on the racing and consider some of the more controversial ideas such as multiple heat races, reversed grids and even having more than one ‘full’ race per weekend.
