Double Formula 1 world champion Mika Hakkinen is a very special guest on the latest episode of our Bring Back V10s podcast.

Hakkinen joins Glenn Freeman and Edd Straw to relive one of his most famous battles with Michael Schumacher – the 2000 Belgian Grand Prix decided by Hakkinen’s three-wide pass on Schumacher and backmarker Ricardo Zonta.

From spinning away the lead at first to how McLaren’s cautious strategy hurt David Coulthard, Hakkinen takes us through the lesser-remembered elements of the race as well as the unforgettable finale.

He then describes the pass, the build-up and its aftermath in incredible detail, including his post-race conversation with Schumacher, and why he declined to share details in public at the time or even discuss the block that left him “pissed off”.

Away from Hakkinen’s heroics, Glenn and Edd look back at all the other big stories from the Spa weekend, including pre-race crisis talks at Ferrari, Jenson Button’s move from Williams to Benetton, Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve falling out (again), the idea of Juan Pablo Montoya signing for Toyota, Jarno Trulli emerging as a qualifying specialist, and the breakdown of Prost’s all-French relationship with Peugeot.
