We discuss the big news that two teams – believed to be Red Bull and Aston Martin – breached Formula 1’s cost cap in 2021 in the latest episode of The Race F1 Podcast.

With the breaches and potential punishments yet to be formally announced, Scott Mitchell-Malm, Mark Hughes and Edd Straw convened after a long day in the Singapore Grand Prix paddock to explain what we know about F1’s latest row.

The differences between “minor” and “material” breaches of the cost cap are explained, along with the wider potential implications of the action that is taken given this is the first real test of F1’s much-vaunted budget cap rules.

We also look at the areas where a team might be able to argue that its spending is within the regulations thanks to its own interpretations of the rules, and what’s at stake for F1’s future in this case.
