McLaren unveils livery for 2025 F1 title defence

McLaren has shown off the livery it will use for its defence of the Formula 1 constructors' championship in the 2025 season.

It was the first team to actually reveal its car for the new campaign when it ran the MCL39 in a temporary camouflage livery at Silverstone last Thursday during a media launch.

But as per F1's rules for the 2025 build-up, McLaren could not reveal its definitive livery for the season until Tuesday night's group launch in London.

Team principal Andrea Stella said the MCL39 is "an innovative car from a technical point of view, but in terms of livery, we wanted to stay in continuity with last year's car to honour our champion car."

"The unveiling of the new MCL39 livery is another key milestone in our journey to go racing this season and follows on from the incredible hard work and commitment of the team towards our 2025 challenger," added team boss Zak Brown.

"My biggest focus right now on the racing team is stability and visibility from a longevity point of view - whether that's the pitwall, our drivers or our sponsors," said Brown ahead of the reveal.

"It’s what I’m laser focused on. If all goes according to plan, you shouldn’t see much change in any of that through the balance of the decade."

McLaren's 2024 constructors' title win was its first since 1998 and its first F1 championship of any kind since Lewis Hamilton's 2008 drivers' crown.

Lando Norris fell short in his pursuit of Max Verstappen for last year's drivers' title, but a bullish Brown declared that McLaren had to go into 2025 aiming for a successful constructors' championship defence and for Norris and Oscar Piastri to be 1-2 in the drivers' standings - in whichever order.

"We’d like to go for the constructors’ and the drivers’ world championship. Why not be greedy and have that be one and two and let Lando and Oscar decide who’s one and who’s two?" said Brown.
