There’s understandably a lot of excitement around Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 comeback given his past achievements, his character and the wider storyline of where this could lead.
But is everyone forgetting just how bad he was at McLaren?
Or that he left Red Bull in the first place because of how results and team focus were moving inexorably Max Verstappen’s way?
Should this actually be seen as a last-chance saloon – one that’s far from certain to turn out well – for a driver who’s damaged his reputation in recent seasons?
And isn’t it also a generally bad sign for the state of Red Bull’s junior programme and its intended young-driver focus?
