Just as Kevin Magnussen exits the Formula 1 grid, a third member of the family is starting on their journey up the single-seater ladder - albeit with F1 a long way off for now.

Kevin's 15-year-old brother Luca will graduate from karting this year with a season in UK-based entry-level single-seater series GB4 for Fortec Motorsport.

Fortec team principal Oliver Dutton said Luca had showed "incredible potential during his karting career" and "particularly impressed" when he tested for the team at Donington Park recently.

The MotorSport Vision-run GB4 series is a lower-cost alternative to the FIA-endorsed British Formula 4 series, using an older F4 chassis and feeding into MSV's F3 equivalent GB3 championship.

Luca follows both older brother Kevin and father Jan in racing in British junior series. Kevin finished second to Felipe Nasr in British F3 in 2011, while the manner of Jan's 1992 Formula Ford Festival victory and 1994 British F3 domination made him one of the hottest properties on the F1 ladder in the mid-1990s.

His actual F1 career quickly fizzled out in a disappointing season and a half with the Stewart team in 1997/98, but Kevin managed a full decade in F1 and a podium on his debut with McLaren in 2014.
