Charles Leclerc pipped Lando Norris to top the opening Formula 1 practice session at the Singapore Grand Prix.
Considering first practice takes place during the daytime rather than at night like qualifying and the race, there's only so much you can read into the FP1 times. But there were some clues about this weekend's pecking order.
Early indications suggest it will be another McLaren vs Ferrari fight at the front, as it was at Monza and in Baku.
Norris spent a healthy portion of the session at the top of the timesheets on a 1m31.763s but Leclerc displaced him with just over 10 minutes to go.
The Ferrari driver's 1m31.763s was 0.076 seconds quicker than Norris's best effort set earlier in FP1. But Leclerc's time was set on a second push lap on his soft tyres, suggesting there's plenty of performance to come.
His Ferrari team-mate Carlos Sainz was third fastest, just under two tenths adrift of Leclerc.
Max Verstappen appears to have quickly reestablished himself as the stronger Red Bull driver, based on FP1 in Singapore at least. He was fourth fastest, three tenths adrift of Leclerc.
Sergio Perez had a trickier time of it, including a trip down the escape road at the Turn 16 right-hander. He ended up 14th, seven tenths slower than Verstappen and a whole second off the pace.
"I can't stop the car with the front right," Perez complained later in the session.
Oscar Piastri also had a tricky FP1 that started with a problem on his rear-left tyre during a practice McLaren pitstop.
Once he got out on track he had a couple of brushes with the wall, including a lairy bump at Turn 10 within the final 10 minutes of the session.
He ended up sixth in the order, six tenths off Leclerc and well over half a second adrift of his team-mate Norris.
Yuki Tsunoda poked his RB between Verstappen and Piastri to end up an impressive fifth fastest, just over half a second off Leclerc.
His team-mate Daniel Ricciardo is fighting for his F1 future this weekend, with Red Bull making a crunch decision after Singapore.
He lost a bit of track time early in the session while RB attended to his car but he ended up seventh quickest, just a tenth slower than Tsunoda.
Alex Albon was eighth quickest in the only Williams with the fully updated suspension. His new team-mate Franco Colapinto was just over two tenths slower in 11th place.
Fernando Alonso's Aston Martin and Esteban Ocon's Alpine completed the top 10 in ninth and 10th.
Mercedes is yet to show its hand, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell setting their fastest times on the hard tyres, leaving them 12th and 16th respectively.
