Ex-Ferrari F1 boss Mattiacci to take Aston Martin automotive role

Former Ferrari team principal Marco Mattiacci is set to join Aston Martin Lagonda, the automotive company, as an advisor.

It is not expected that his role will encompass involvement in the running of the Aston Martin Formula 1 team, as has been speculated elsewhere.

Before his brief tenure as Ferrari team principal in 2014, Mattiacci had headed up Ferrari’s North American business and it was in this role that he came to know current Aston Martin boss Lawrence Stroll.

Mattiacci succeeded current F1 boss Stefano Domenicali as Ferrari team principal after the latter resigned early in 2014 but was replaced for 2015 by Maurizio Arrivabene following the replacement of group boss Luca di Montezemolo by Sergio Marchionne.

Mattiacci – under guidance from Montezemolo – famously released Alonso from his Ferrari contract to make way for Sebastian Vettel.

An Aston Martin Lagonda spokesman confirmed, “Mr Mattiacci is an advisor to Aston Martin Lagonda,” but gave no further detail.
