Bring Back V10s: Barrichello’s glorious but bizarre first win

1 min read

Rubens Barrichello’s first grand prix victory was one of the most memorable in Formula 1 history.

The 2000 German Grand prix looked like being a quiet McLaren-Mercedes 1-2 until a protestor and then a change in weather turned everything upside down.

That created circumstances for Barrichello to come from 18th on the grid to win, rescuing Ferrari’s day after a disaster for its title chaser Michael Schumacher at home.

Ben Anderson and Edd Straw join host Glenn Freeman as our Bring Back V10s podcast revisits the madness of Hockenheim 2000.

As well as everything that happened on track in that extraordinary race, they also discuss all that was going on in the paddock at the time – including Peugeot’s grumpy exit from F1, a driver announcing their retirement after staying on a little too long, and Jacques Villeneuve making what might have been the biggest mistake of his career.

Bring Back V10s is available through all major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

You can also get early access to ad-free versions of the show by joining The Race Members’ Club.
